FC Zurich beat FC Lugano 1:0
FC Zurich have won their first home game after the restart of the championship against FC Lugano 1:0.
FC Zurich had their first scoring opportunity of the game after just one minute, but a shot from close range by Blaž Kramer following a Marchesano delivery was off target and the ball flew over the crossbar. In the 20th minute, Aiyegun Tosin got the better of two FC Lugano players; however, keeper Noam Baumann in the visitors’ goal was able to keep out his curled shot. And Becir Omeragic then just missed the goal in the subsequent corner kick (21st minute).
After the half-time break, the home side increased their pressure, but failed to convert opportunities by Tosin (header in the 55th minute) and two chances by Marchesano (63rd and 65th minute).
After Jonathan Sabbatini of FC Lugano hit the crossbar in the 67th minute, FC Zurich got the wake-up call and finally took the lead when Marchesano headed the ball home to put the home team 1:0 in front. During the final minutes of the game, the visitors from Lugano kept on pushing for the equalizer; however, but the score remained unchanged until the final whistle and FC Zurich got to celebrate a narrow 1:0 home win.
Next Wednesday evening, 1 July 2020, FC Zurich will be facing FC Thun away (kick-off 8.30pm).
