FC Zurich beat Servette FC 2-0
FC Zurich have won their home game against Servette FC 2-0 tonight.
The visitors from Geneva had the first chance of the game after just three minutes thanks to a shot from long range by Varol Tasar; however, FC Zurich goalkeeper Yanick Brecher managed to save this shot without any major problems. A direct free kick by Christopher Routis in the 14th minute then turned out to be more dangerous, the ball whizzing over the crossbar by a few inches.
The home side from Zurich then converted their first opportunity to open the score when Kololli hammered the ball under the crossbar (1-0 in the 19th minute) following a corner kick. And in the 32nd minute, Nathan just missed the Geneva goal with a header.
After the half-time break, FC Zurich doubled their lead to two goals on a quick counterattack: Kololli fended off his opponent, passed the ball to Michael Kempter whose cross found Rüegg (50th minute) – it was Rüegg’s fourth goal in his 101st official game for FC Zurich.
Even though both FC Zurich through Marchesano (53rd minute) and Kramer and Servette FC through Anthony Sauthier (77th minute), Alex Schalk (83rd minute) and Routis (90th minute) had several more opportunities, the score remained unchanged 2-0 until the final whistle.
Next Tuesday evening, 7 July 2020, FC Zurich will be facing Neuchâtel Xamax FCS away (kick-off 8.30pm).
