FC Zurich suffer 0-4 defeat against FC Basel
FC Zurich have lost their home game against FC Basel 0-4 tonight.
FC Zurich got off to an incredibly bad start to tonight’s game because after just a few seconds, Basel’s Fabian Frei scored the 1-0 opener for the visitors. And also following this goal, FC Basel had several more opportunities and should have even doubled their lead.
But FC Zurich then also had a few promising scoring chances, most notably through Aiyegun Tosin (deflected shot in the 20th minute) and Blaž Kramer (header in the 30th minute); however, FC Basel goalkeeper Jonas Omlin was able to keep his goal clear. So instead of the FC Zurich equalizer, Basel’s Stocker doubled his side’s lead to 2-0 (45th minute) with a volley shot from the edge of the penalty area just before the half-time break.
Throughout the second half, FC Zurich then took control of the action on the pitch and did their best to get back into the game. But despite several good scoring opportunities, Frei found the back of the net in the 80th and again in the 85th minute with two well-timed low shots, putting the final score to 0-4 for FC Basel.
Next Sunday afternoon, 16 February 2020, FC Zurich will be facing Servette FC away (kick-off 4pm).
