FC Zurich suffer 1:3 defeat against FC St Gallen
FC Zurich have lost their home game against FC St Gallen 1:3 tonight.
The visitors from St Gallen took the early lead already in the second minute when Quintillà converted a penalty to put his side 1:0 in front; Guillemenot had been fouled in the box. FC Zurich were able to show an immediate reaction to this deficit and had several promising scoring opportunities to level the game thanks to a header by Nathan (5th minute) as well as Antonio Marchesano and Hekuran Kryeziu, whose shots were unfortunately blocked by the St Gallen defense (11th minute).
Nevertheless, FC Zurich then still managed to equalize in the 16th minute as Henri Koide got the better of his opponent on the right and his cross found Kololli who tucked the ball away to score the 1:1. Kololli then had a couple more opportunities to even put his side 2:1 in front; however, since these chances were left unused, the score remained unchanged until the half-time whistle.
However, a few minutes after the second half had kicked off, it was the visitors’ turn to take the lead again when Itten scored the 2-1 for FC St Gallen (48th minute). And when Guillemenot doubled his team’s advantage to 3:1 in the 75th minute, the game was more or less decided since FC Zurich were not able to react to this two-goal deficit.
Next Tuesday evening, 28 July 2020, FC Zurich will be hosting FC Sion at the Letzigrund Stadium (kick-off 8.30pm).
