FC Zurich draw FC Lugano 2-2
The home game between FC Zürich and FC Lugano has ended in a 2-2 draw tonight.
From kick-off, the FC Zurich players tried to take control of the action on the pitch. Nevertheless, it was the team from Lugano that took the early lead in the ninth minute when Gerndt opened the score 1-0 for the side from Ticino following a corner.
After some promising scoring opportunities for FC Zurich by Marchesano (19th and 25th minute) and Assan Ceesay, FC Zurich managed to draw level in the 38th minute when Sobiech headed the ball home after a corner to make it 1-1. Also throughout the second half, FC Zurich were the more dominant side on the pitch.
After Sabbatini had been sent off with the second yellow card in the 53rd minute, FC Zurich were able to exploit their numerical superiority and took the lead again in the 76th minute - Marchesano headed the ball into the Lugano net to make it 2 1 for the home team; Silvan Wallner had provided the assist.
Despite several good opportunities to score the match-deciding 3-1, it was unfortunately not FC Zurich’s turn to celebrate a win tonight, as Guidotti equalized the score 2-2 for the visitors from Ticino just moments before the final whistle (90th minute).
Next Saturday evening, 3 October 2020, FC Zurich will be facing FC Lausanne-Sport away (kick-off 7pm).
