Franco Foda appointed new FC Zurich manager
FC Zurich is pleased to announce that Franco Foda has been appointed as the club’s new manager. The 56-year-old German has signed a two-year contract until the summer of 2024.
As a defender, Foda was under contract with 1. FC Kaiserslautern, Arminia Bielefeld, 1. FC Saarbrücken, Bayer 04 Leverkusen, VfB Stuttgart, FC Basel 1893 and SK Sturm Graz. Overall, the two-time German international played 321 games in the Bundesliga, in which he scored 20 goals and played 14 assists. Foda is a three-time German Cup winner, and he won the championship twice and the cup once with Sturm Graz.
After Foda had ended his active career as a player in the summer of 2001, he began his managerial career with the youth teams at Sturm Graz. Subsequently, he was appointed manager of the club’s first team and remained in charge for several years. He won the cup with Sturm Graz in 2010 and the Austrian championship title the following year. During the 2012/2013 season, Franco Foda was manager at 1. FC Kaiserslautern in the second Bundesliga before he returned to Graz. From the end of October 2017 to the end of March 2022, Foda oversaw the Austrian national team, with which he qualified for the final round of the European Championship and reached the last 16 of a European Championship for the first time with Austria in 2021.
