Vasilije Janjicic joins NK Celje

FC Zurich and Vasilije Janjicic have mutually agreed to terminate their contract with immediate effect. The 23-year-old central midfielder joins Slovenian first division club NK Celje.

Janjicic joined FC Zurich in 2004 and completed most of his footballing education with the FCZ Academy. At the age of 17, the Swiss U21 international joined HSV in Germany’s first Bundesliga. He played 38 official games for the German club before returning to FC Zurich in August 2019, for which he then played a total of 15 official matches.

At the beginning of July 2020, Vasilije Janjicic was diagnosed with cancer, which he overcame after several months of therapy. He has been cancer-free since January 2021 and, after an intensive build-up, got to play a few games with FC Zurich’s U21s.
